She is controversy’s favorite child, and she loves it to the core. Meet Mallika Sherawat, the confidant and carefree filmstar who shocked everyone with as many as 17 kisses in her very 1st film, Khwahish.
Reema Lamba, as she was formerly called, was born on 24th October, 1981 in an orthodox jat family of Haryana. She aspired to become an actress from her childhood but had to face strong oppositions from her family members. She eventually overcame all odds to realize her dreams.
When Mallika came to Mumbai, she knew nobody. Life was tough but her spirits were high. With a lot of hard work and persuasion, she finally got a break with film maker Govind Menon’s Khwahish opposite Himanshu Mallik. People had not yet come over the shock of the boldness of this film, when Mallika was seen in another such role in Mahesh Bhatt’s thriller, “Murder”.
By now Mallika had earned an image of a sex siren. She was noticed and criticized by one and many. But Mallika had no qualms about any comment that came her way. She always took them as a compliment.
On just a few years of time, Mallika, as she had aimed for, became more and more popular. She had a no. of films falling in her kitty and was loving every bit of her popularity. Films like Kis Kis Ki Kismat, Shaadi Se Pehle and Pyaar Ke Side Effects gave her an opportunity to work with actors like Dharmendra, Rahul Bose and Sunil Shetty.
A very interesting opportunity came in her life when Mallika was offered a role in a film opposite the veteran Kung Fu king and actor, Jackie Chan. She immediately accepted the offer and in 2005, she was seen in “the Myth”.
Regretting about the past has never been Mallika’s habit. She believes in living at the moment and says that its her hard work that she has been able to make a place for herself in Bollywood in such a short span.
Mallika’s latest films include a cameo in “Guru”. She will also be seen in Himesh Reshammiya’s debut film “Aap Ka Suroor”. She has even signed a Hollywood flick, “Unveiled” directed by the very famous Bill Bannerman.
Sources say that this actress, who had no problems doing on screen kissing roles before, is now completely no-no for it. Now that she has denied lip locks in her films, we will have more of her acting skills to see.
