Lisa Ray is one person who keeps disappearing from the Mumbai film industry time and again. She was born on April 4rth 1972, to a Bengali father and a Polish mother in Toronto, Canada where she was raised. Her chiseled face and the perfect figure caught the attention of Maureen Wadia while she was just 16.
This cat eyed beauty took the modeling industry by storm. She became the brand ambassador of “Lakme” cosmetics in India and appeared in a no. of advertisements including Monte Carlo, Matiz and Sprite. At the peak of her modeling career, Lisa forayed into films. After rejecting many offers, she debuted in “Kasoor” opposite Aftab Shivdaani in 2001.
Lisa then went on to do “Hollywood Bollywood” in 2002 by Deepa Mehta. It was a huge success in Canada. She also did a Bengali film in 2002 named “Takkari Donga”. Her latest release “Water” was a critically lauded film which imbibed the theme of widows and the miseries that become a part of their routine life in a male dominated society. Thereafter she showed her disinclination for Hindi films.
“BPL OYE” was one show hosted by Lisa, which became very popular on Channel V. she also did a music video “Afreen Afreen”, sung by the late maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. She was also seen in a Daler Mehendi video a few years back.
Lisa has appeared on the cover pages of Elle, Femina and Great Looks magazines. She has lived in London for 3 years to graduate in acting from the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. She has also played the lead in a romantic comedy “Ball and Chain”, filmed in Austin, Texas.
A true believer in destiny, Lisa has always listened to her heart. She loves long walks, which, according to her, is a stress buster. With a height of 5’5” Lisa feels that she is not suited to walk the ramp. She keeps switching from India to Toronto to Paris and also to New York and loves it that way.
